Romney Can Have Nikki Minaj, We Have Nikki Giovanni

By The Political Beauty

There’s a great saying that goes, “it’s best to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt”. Those words come to mind when I recently read an article proclaiming Ms. Nikki Minaj is a Republican. While no diehard fan, I must admit I had to click on the link to an audio of her rapping, claiming she is a Republican, and basically telling all ladies on welfare to “stop draining the economy”.

Let me be clear, I have no issue with Minaj being a Republican. Blacks are not a monolith and while we make up a small percentage of the Republican Party, there are many who believe in trickle down economics and “every man for himself”. My issue with Minaj and other black conservatives is that all too often they forget that they are products of the very government programs they now demonize: welfare, Pell Grants, GI Bill, affirmative action policies, immigration, etc. These “horrible programs” helped the poor become middle class and the middle class become upper class. To Ms. Minaj specifically, I am saddened by her words as the very “welfare recipients” she knocks are likely buying her music and fattening her pockets. I am saddened by the fact that she, a WOMAN, is choosing a party that is hell bent on controlling a woman’s body and earning potential. Granted, this could very well be a publicity stunt. On one hand she takes to Twitter to criticize the lack of universal health coverage in American and, in the same breath, knocks the poor. Who does she think is hit hardest by the lack of affordable health coverage? Shame on us for expecting more from a grown woman making millions portraying an inflated derriere having schizophrenic. Oh, did I mention that there are reports that she IS NOT a registered voter! "Hotmessness" at its best!

In closing, I encourage all not to indulge Ms. Minaj. Instead, increase our polical efficacy and understand that we are facing dire times. In an effort to increase the black vote, Romney/Ryan have created a Black Leadership Council. Perhaps I will entertain this council when the denial of systemic racism, dismissal of blacks as always using the race card, erroneous depictions of blacks as the poster child for government dependence and damn near every other social ill in America cease to exist or, at the very least, is addressed by GOP leaders. In the words of our President, don't boo the GOP...VOTE!

Let Romney have Nikki Minaj, we have Nikki Giovanni. Forward 2012...
