FLOTUS

By The Political Beauty

Poise, eloquence, grace, and strength are a few of the many words that can describe our beautiful First Lady, Mrs. Michelle Obama. Listening to Mrs. Obama speak last night conjured the same goose bumps I felt as she stepped on the stage in 2008 as her husband accepted the United States Presidency.

Mrs. Obama is such a great role model for all women. To hear her speak about her father, a blue-collar worker who did not let muscular dystrophy diminish his work ethic and ability to care for his family was breathtaking. As one whose father died when I was six, I found myself living vicariously through her words—if only for a few minutes. To hear Mrs. Obama speak about balancing family obligations was something so many of us moms understand. Being a working mom is a constant juggling act and one in which you find yourself questioning if you are doing the best for your children and husband. Unlike Mrs. Obama, we do so without an unrelenting microscope.

According to Mrs. Obama, “success is not about how much money you make, but how you impact people’s lives”. These powerful words coming from a woman who chose a lower paying and more fulfilling career rather than a lucrative career that an Ivy League education all but guarantees—and that was long before she became our First Lady and President Obama garnered wealth as a best selling author.

While I know she will likely not read this, I (as well as others) would like to thank her for being the wife, mom, and America I strive to emulate. Thanks for championing childhood obesity. Thanks for championing military families. Thanks for maintaining a level of sophistication in the face of adversity. Thanks for possessing an inner beauty that equally matches your outward beauty. As I listened to you and the “happy tears” flowed from my eyes, I was reminded of how great this country is and how much I love her.

Now on a light note, Mrs. Obama, do tell us more about that fabulous nail polish you were wearing. Hair, dress, shoes, and make up were FLAWLESS!

  1. Awesome post! Mrs. Obama is such a shining example of beauty, intelligence, and compassion - the WHOLE package. As women, all two often we focus on 1 or 2 out of 3, and remain unfulfilled. I know I'm not alone in that personal observation. Gotta get that FLOTUS balance!
